The word ‘interpersonal’ is defined as relating to relationships or communication between people.
I know that is a lot of confusion whether expressed or not on what is the optimum behaviour in the workplace today. In this blog I am concentrating on the 20’s and 30's age group which forms the critical mass of this new corporate India. This generation is coming from a strong cultural springboard and are being launched into a new westernized world full of possibilities, opportunities, and temptations.
One can imagine how hard it must be at times to make sense of it all. It is natural to feel confused between what is right and what is wrong. At a glance this generation looks happy, abundant and full of fun and life. What more could they want ? They have the bindings of strong family values while a future full of possibilities.
With such rapid growth, even society is trying to readjust to set newer bench marks for good and evil. What is appropriate and what isn't ? A lot of the multinationals have constant ongoing programs to address this conundrum, for this in turn will help them mold and maneuver the culture of their organizations.
What values do they emphasize such that there is ample room for creativity and innovation without disrupting life too much? How much discipline is good discipline?
Adding to the complication are social hierarchies, gender diversity, economic inequality, varying geographic ethnicity and age. The digital way of doing things is also something we are trying to get a hang of.
The question that is raised is what constitutes healthy personal interactions in the corporate world between people ?
It starts with having a healthy relationship with oneself. Are you generally happy and proud of your life so far yet at the same time feel excited for the future ? The biggest sign is GRATITUTE... If you can feel grateful ( not, "It's okay, I'm fine" but truly and genuinely thankful and grateful ) for even the mishaps in your life... knowing that you don't have all the answers but it all fits well in the divine plan for the ultimate good... you are in a great place with respect to yourself. And this energy translates to your other relationships - be it at work or home. There is no other way but to have harmonious relationships.
